REVIEW: Could new Netflix thriller What/If be your new obsession?

Netflix describes its new series What/If as a neo-noir social thriller exploring the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things.

Ohhhhh yes please.

Mysterious, super-rich businesswoman Anne (a show-stealing Zellweger) offers cash strapped but a happily married couple, Lisa (Levy) and Sean (Jenner), a giant wad of cash in exchange for one night with Mr. Happily Married.

Yeah, yeah I know what you’re thinking. We saw this exact scenario in that 80’s movie with Demi Moore and Robert Redford.

But this is so much more. Sooooooooooo much more.

You see, Lisa is looking to fund a med tech start-up that promises to save the lives of many children. And yes, you will get all the feelings. Plus, she borrowed money from her parents.

Sean works two jobs and very early on, we discover he has a dubious past that he obviously hasn’t shared with his adoring wife.

Sean is a bad, bad boy.

This show is trashtastic goodness in all its trashtastic glory! It is so bad, it’s fantastic!

Of course, Mr & Mrs Happily Married accept the offer of a giant wad of cash and as mentioned, this show sets out to explore what happens next.

There are, of course, the obligatory hurt feelings. Because nobody expected that, right? *insert eye roll*

There are repercussions because nasty/sneaky/f***cking fabulous Anne has made Mr & Mrs HM sign an NDA whereby Mr HM cannot talk about ‘that night’.

And it drives Mrs HM bonkers!

With a cast of deliciously naughty supporting players, and a few pure hearts thrown in just to even things out, it’s not long before lots of juicy secrets come bubbling to the surface and things start to slowly spin out of control.

I can’t wait to see what happens next.
