Psychedelic rock veterans The Brian Jonestown Massacre will return to Newcastle next year, with a headline show locked in at King St Hotel, marking the band’s first visit since their infamous 2023 Australian tour.
The group, led by enigmatic founder Anton Newcombe, has built a reputation for prolific recordings, unpredictable live shows and a cult-like following across the globe.
First formed in 1990, they’ve become one of the most enduring names in modern psychedelic rock, constantly reinventing their sound while keeping their live sets electric and raw.
Their last appearance in Australia ended abruptly when a Melbourne performance in 2023 descended into onstage chaos, forcing the remainder of the tour to be cancelled.
Now, after sitting out 2024 entirely, the band has returned to form with a series of well-received European shows earlier this year, reassuring fans that they’re once again at the top of their game.
The 2026 Australian tour will launch in Sydney before hitting Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne, Castlemaine and Perth. Sweden’s Les Big Byrd will join them on select dates, bringing their own experimental psych-rock flavour to the bill.
For Newcastle fans, this is a rare chance to see The Brian Jonestown Massacre up close, with the King St Hotel set to host what’s sure to be an intense and memorable night of music.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre play King St Hotel, Newcastle, on Friday 20 March 2026. Tickets go on sale from 11am, Thursday 4 September, with pre-sale opening 24 hours earlier.
