Lake Macquarie families are getting more places to play, with a new playground opening at Keith Barry Oval in Toronto as Council rolls out a broader program of playground and recreation upgrades across the city.
The revamped Toronto playground has transformed what was previously little more than two sets of ageing swings into a much more substantial play space.
Kids can now tackle climbing structures and netting, a firepole, see-saw and spinner, as well as a creative play shopfront.
The upgrade also includes bench seating and a perimeter concrete path, creating a more accessible space for families to spend time together around Keith Barry Oval.
The NSW Government contributed $150,000 towards the project through its Local Small Communities Allocation Program.
The playground is part of a wider push to improve Lake Macquarieโs network of public play spaces, with similar upgrades planned for Marmong Point, Morisset and New Lambton Heights during the 2026-27 financial year.
Council currently manages more than 110 playgrounds across the local government area.
More projects are also in the works, including plans to transform Wyee Community Hall Reserve into a district-level park featuring a neighbourhood playground, active recreation facilities and picnic areas.
Proposed play equipment includes a flying fox, climbing elements and obstacles, alongside a social space for teenagers. Meanwhile, Charlestown Lions Park is set for a major expansion featuring a new playground, half multipurpose court and hit-wall, public amenities and car parking.
The new Keith Barry Oval playground in Toronto is now open to the community, with no tickets required. More information about the cityโs playgrounds is available through Lake Macquarie City Council.
