What if, for one day, everything stopped and we all just listened to the music.
That’s the sentiment behind the Play Music On The Porch Day movement that aims to get musicians from across the globe, regardless of their differences, to find common ground through music.
The organiser of the event, Los Angeles based artist Brian Mallman, kicked off the day with humble intentions in 2013 and by 2018 the initiative had grown to include thousands of musicians from over 70 countries participating in a movement that continues to grow each year.
Play Music On The Porch Day happens each year on the last Saturday in August. And while it normally encourages people to revive the tradition of gathering, singing and playing music outside with friends and family, this year organisers are reminding everyone to practice social distancing and use digital platforms to share their performances.

How to Play Music On The Porch

You can just go outside and play music – It’s that easy. You don’t even need a porch!
But if you want to take things to the next level, you can click the button below to register your porch gig and add your little corner of the world to the Play Music On The Porch map.
Given many parts of the world are still doing the whole social distancing thing (thanks COVID), the Play Music On The Porch people are also encouraging participants to record and upload a video of their porch performance to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. And by using the hashtag #playmusicontheporchday you’ll be able to share your set with a worldwide audience.
