The sun was out, local musos were in fine form, and there were more toilets than you could poke a stick at. That’s what greeted us on arrival when we rolled into the back of the Victoria Hotel in Hinton for Springfest II.
As the name suggests, this is the second outing for Springfest, and it has to be said it’s gone from strength to strength.
Whilst there was enough room around to get the feeling promoters would have liked to sell a few more tickets, overall the festival was well run and everyone one we saw had huge smiles on their faces.
On stage was one of the best showcases of local talent we’ve seen all year.
We’re not going to sit here and critique each band (they get enough of that at band competitions), but it’s hard to go past Lennie Tranter And The Bagism Revelation complete with local duo Rose&theSea on backing vocals (which was very Vika and Linda, and we like that). Props go to In Motion too (the little Newcastle band who just keep on building on well-deserved momentum), and we’re big fans of the Auxfire boys.
While The Treehouse Children owned their headline slot with every inch of their dirty pop ghetto style (honestly, we’re major fans and James Edge is a heart throb), it has to be said that for this festival to see the numbers of people through the gates it wants, and deserves, it must invest in a headliner with a little more profile.
Overall, we salute the promoters for a fine day that showcased some of the best music our local scene has to offer.
Cheers for Springfest III.
