A petition has been launched to secure NSW Government support for Bluesfest.
In a bid to rescue one of Australia’s most iconic music festivals, Tamara Smith MP, the NSW State Government representative for Ballina, has launched the E-petition aimed at securing government intervention for Bluesfest to continue it’s annual event in Byron Bay.
The festival, which has been a cornerstone of the region’s cultural and economic landscape, recently announced that 2025 would mark its final year, prompting an outpouring of support from its dedicated community.
Smith’s petition seeks to gather 20,000 signatures from NSW residents, a threshold that would compel the state parliament to debate the festival’s future.
“We cannot afford to lose Bluesfest. It is imperative that we take collective action to ensure its survival for future generations to enjoy,” Smith said.
Bluesfest Byron Bay has long been celebrated not just for its world-class music but also for its significant contributions to the local economy. The festival attracts thousands of visitors annually, providing a boost to local businesses and reinforcing the region’s reputation as a cultural hub.
“We want to extend our sincerest thanks to each and every one of you for your kind words and steadfast support,” Festival Director Peter Noble OAM said.
“It’s been a journey of joy, challenges, and unforgettable music. Seeing your reactions has only strengthened our resolve to make this final Bluesfest a truly historic event. Thank you for being part of our story. Let’s make Bluesfest 2025 a testament to the spirit of this wonderful festival family.”
With the threat of closure looming, the petition represents a critical push to secure a government rescue package that could ensure the festival’s survival.
