This week’s program, Ossie And Friends (Lake Macquarie FM 97.3 Wednesday 6pm till 9pm) is proudly sponsored by VIBES Australia which is held at The Coast Hotel at Budgewoi each Thursday Night.
We will kick off the program tonight with a sneaky visit from young lead guitarist, Gavin Green, from ONE DAY APART to give us the news on how the band’s performance was at SNOWTUNES recently as well as some information on the big night coming up on Saturday 1st October at The Doylo.
We will also play a couple of tracks from ONE DAY APART’S new EP, Water Into Fire.
Gav’s visit is brought to you by Springfest 2, which is a festival of fine food, beer and music being held at Hinton on October 15.
Our second guest will be via the telephone. The lovely EMMA JENE is brought to you by Music Solutions at Warners Bay, a music store run by musicians.
Emma is going to have a chat with us about her music career and direction and we will be playing her new single, Cross Your Heart, which is a beautiful country ballad about friendship, love and respect.
Tune in tonight to find out more about EMMA JENE or check out her Facebook Page, @EmmaJeneTeam or the website www.emmajene.com
Our third guest tonight is the hot band, NEW REGULARS, brought to you by Cardiff Golf Driving Range, Cardiff. We may be able to tempt the guys to play “live” for us in the studio as well as hear some of their old and newest offerings from their latest EP, GIVE NO REASON.
NEW REGULARS is a three-piece funk-flavoured rock/blues outfit, their music influenced by The Black Keys, Jack White and Ash Grunwald. Kurt, Cypress and Anthony certainly pack a punch with their live performances and have come under notice from some very influencial people.
NEW REGULARS have secured some very cool support spots coming up over the next couple of months, including The Radiators at Bateau Bay Hotel on October 1, MI-SEX at The Bridge Hotel October 21st and a double supporting The Superjesus at Byron Bay and Brisbane October 28 and 29.
Check out more about the boys via Facebook @NewRegulars or the website www.newregulars.com.au
In a huge program, topping off the night will be a chat on the phone with Blake Saban from the Psyche/Blues-Stoner Rock Band, THE URBAN CHIEFS. Blake and his off-sider, Glendon Finlay, hail from Tamworth, although, they may shock their straight Country friends with their style, challenging “the norm” as they put it.
THE URBAN CHIEFS are one of the hardest working roots rock band in the Country, they promise that lovers of psychedelic grooves, whiskey slide guitar, insane percussive grooves and whiskey sour vocals will go off during one of their shows.
We will play a couple of tracks from THE URBAN CHIEFS to give you a taste. Then it will be up to you as THE URBAN CHIEFS will be in the area this weekend.
Friday Night the boys will be at Potters Hotel Brewery Resort at Pokolbin (and what a shame, I just happen to be staying there this Friday Night) then on Saturday Night at The Stag & Hunter Hotel in Mayfield. Now, don’t say you haven’t been warned!!!
Check out more on Facebook @theurbanchiefs or via their website www.theurbanchiefs.com
During the evening we will also be graced with the presence of actor/musician, SHAUN A ROBINSON. Shaun plays many parts in various movies and programs, including BOGAN HUNTERS, DUMB CRIMINALS and HOUSOS. Shaun was also lead singer in Metal band, ORIGIN OF JANKEN. A man of many talents, will be, in a way I guess, co-hosting….or annoying me….check out more about Shaun via Facebook @Shaun.A.RobinsonOfficial
CENTRAL COAST UKELELE FESTIVAL
What a weekend coming up at The Entrance on the Central Coast. It all actually kicks off on Thursday Night, September 22. There will be a Ukelele Workshop on Thursday Night at Diggers at The Entrance featuring Cameron Murray, followed by Cameron in concert. On Friday 23rd, plenty of opportunities to learn more at the Teachers and Leaders Support Day, followed by a Dinner/Show at Diggers featuring New Zealand visitors, THE NUKES.
The event continues right over the weekend with performances and workshops on both Saturday and Sunday outdoors alongside the beautiful lake at The Entrance. If the weather turns nasty, inside venues will cater for the activities.
So much happening, too much to put in this column, so check out much more on the Facebook Page, @centralcoastukeleclub
BATTLE OF THE BANDS
The Battle Of The Bands at The Coast Hotel at Budgewoi saw a dozen great bands do battle over 4 heats. My goodness, winners each week were usually victors by just a few points.
The Grand Final on this Friday September 23 at The Coast Hotel Budgewoi. There is over $5,000 worth of cash and prizes to be won, with some fun giveaways on the nights. Check out more on the VIBES Australia Facebook Page @vibesaustralia.
Finalists are the 4 Heat Winners, SOUTHERN END, STRICKUN, BICYCLE DAY, NANCY MARS plus the Wild Card, ZIPPER CLONE.
These 5 bands cover several genres, another difficult decision for the judges.
A new judge will be included tonight, replacing myself, so fresh eyes with form part of the judging panel to cast a vote without having seen the Heat performances.
