Grinspoon frontman, Phil Jamieson will hit the stage in the King Street Bandroom early next year armed with his latest solo full-length, Somebody Else.
Released in 2022, the album represents a groundbreaking departure for Jamieson, seamlessly merging his legacy as an iconic frontman with a fresh blend of sharp rock and pop sensibilities.
Newcastle is loving us some Phil Jamieson action at the moment too. This gig will be just one of many the Aussie music legend has performed in the city recently.
On top of headlining the Cambridge Hotel Farewell Festival out front of the Grinners, Phil was here last week as part of the White Album concert tour, along with fellow Aussie stalwarts Chris Cheney, Tim Rogers and Josh Pyke.
The tour which will hit the King Street Bandroom in January next year will see Jamieson performing offerings from Somebody Else as well as never-before-heard solo Jamieson material and moments from the past.
“After the exploration that Grinspoon have done on Easy and New Detention, I may play some deep cuts of those records. Iโm also looking forward to road-testing some new material that I have been working on for my sophomore solo joint,” Phil said.
“I love being solo. Itโs a challenging space but also super rewarding.”
It’s been one hell of a past too. Hailing from Lismore and taking out triple j Unearthedโs national band competition in 1995, Grinspoon quickly took the music world by storm, releasing their groundbreaking debut album Guide To Better Living in 1997 which would go on to spend 36 weeks in the ARIA Top 50 and wield double-platinum certification.
From there, the story is the stuff of legends, with sales clocking well over half a million, multiple Top Ten charting albums, ARIA Award wins and nominations, festival appearances at Big Day Out, Homebake, Falls Festival and Splendour In The Grass, performing at the NRL Grand Final and the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony in Melbourne, and zero signs of slowing down as the group edge closer to their third decade as a band.
Throughout the journey, Jamiesonโs nuanced performances and songwriting prowess have only fortified, with the charismatic artist consistently evolving while also exploring new terrain along the way, including his starring role as St. Jimmy in the Australian production of the Broadway musical American Idiot.
Phil Jamieson will bring the Nobody Else 2024 Australian Tour to the King Street Bandroom in Newcastle on Thursday, 25 January 2024. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 29 September at 10 am from philjamieson.com.au.
