Great news, Newcastle view hounds. Nobbys Headland will reopen to the public from this weekend.

The Port Authority of New South Wales, who manages the site which is owned by Crown Lands, announced yesterday that the heritage-listed site will open its gates from 8an to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as cruise ship days.

During the summer daylight-saving months, the operating hours will be extended to 7am to 7pm.

Following the reopening, the Port Authority will engage with local stakeholders and community members to hear their views and discuss the medium- to long-term use of the site.

An expression of interest for long-term public use of the site will be released later this year from August 1 to December 1.

The news was welcomed by State Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp who took to Facebook to declare: “I am pleased that after pressure from the community, media and raising the issue in Parliament and with the Minister, Nobbys Lighthouse will be re-opened to the public!”
