This weekend King Edward Park will transform into a vibrant hub of cultural celebration and reflection as Ngarrama returns for its fourth year.
The free, family-friendly event, hosted by the University of Newcastle in partnership with Awabakal Ltd and other local organisations, invites the community to engage in meaningful reconciliation through storytelling, performance, and open dialogue.
Highlights of the evening include performances by local First Nations dance groups and storytelling by respected Elders, with the much-loved Curious Legends giant puppets adding a magical touch for younger attendees.
A key attraction this year is the inaugural Sea Creatures Lantern Parade, led by the illuminated puppets of Curious Legends.
Children are encouraged to participate by creating their own lanterns, with 400 DIY kits available to registered participants.
Guests are encouraged to pack a picnic and enjoy the alcohol-free event in the picturesque surroundings of King Edward Park. With no food available for purchase, bringing your own snacks and a picnic rug is essential for a comfortable and enjoyable evening.
Ngarrama will take over King Edward Park in Newcastle on Saturday 25 January 2025. For more information visit eventbrite.com.au.
