Two remarkable Novocastrian women have been named among the finalists for the prestigious 2025 NSW Women of the Year Awards, celebrating their dedication, leadership, and contributions to the community.
Mariam Mohammed and Ennia Jones have been recognised for their outstanding achievements in their respective categories, showcasing the talent and resilience of women in the Hunter region.
Mariam Mohammed has been nominated for the NSW Premier’s Woman of Excellence award, a category that recognises trailblazers who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and influence. Her work has left a lasting impact on her field, making her a standout contender among the state’s most accomplished women.
Ennia Jones has been named a finalist in the NSW Community Hero category, acknowledging her tireless commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. Through her dedication to community service and advocacy, Jones has helped to create lasting change and provide crucial support to those in need across Newcastle and beyond.
This year’s awards attracted a record-breaking number of nominations, with over 500 submissions from across New South Wales. The finalists represent a diverse range of professions and causes, from scientific research to social justice advocacy, demonstrating the remarkable breadth of contributions by women and girls in the state.
