Newcastle Writers Festival has launched an inspiring spring program, bringing together a bold mix of literary voices including Bob Brown, Griffin Dunne, Keri Glastonbury, and Sally Hepworth.

With a focus on diversity in form and voice, the spring series will feature everything from political activism and poetry to memoir and bestselling fiction.

The program reflects the festival’s ongoing commitment to offering audiences year-round access to thought-provoking events and celebrated writers from both home and abroad.

Legendary environmentalist and former senator Bob Brown will kick off the program, bringing decades of experience in activism and social justice to the stage.

Film and literary fans will also be treated to a special appearance by Griffin Dunne, acclaimed American actor and director, who will reflect on his remarkable creative journey and his recent memoir The Friday Afternoon Club.

Newcastle’s own Keri Glastonbury returns to the local spotlight to launch her latest poetry collection 51 Alterities, following the critical acclaim of Newcastle Sonnets.

Also featured in the program is international bestselling author Sally Hepworth, whose gripping novels have captivated readers worldwide. Her latest release Mad Mabel will be available just in time for the event.

Adding to the excitement, the festival will also announce the winner of its prestigious $5,000 Fresh Ink Emerging Writer Prize, now in its fifth year, showcasing the next wave of Australian literary talent.

Events will be held at the Conservatorium of Music and Watt Space Gallery between 20 September to 25 October. Tickets are now on sale at newcastlewritersfestival.org.au. The spring program is proudly supported by the University of Newcastle.
