Newcastle fans of smooth-talking, genre-bending rock are in for a treat this spring, with Dave Graney ‘n’ The Coral Snakes locked in to perform at King Street Band Room in November.
The show forms part of a national tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their Gold-certified 1995 album The Soft ‘n’ Sexy Sound.
Lauded for its sharp lyrical swagger and lounge-laced art rock stylings, the album was a high point in the band’s storied catalogue—earning Graney an ARIA Award for Best Male Artist in 1996.
Recorded at Metropolis Audio in Melbourne and produced by Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey), the record delivered fan favourites like Rock’n’Roll Is Where I Hide and I’m Not Afraid To Be Heavy.
The upcoming Newcastle date will see the album performed in full, in order, before the band delivers a second set packed with classics from across their decades-long career.
Expect signature wit, retro cool, and a sound that has only deepened in flavour with time.
Still fronting the lineup is the inimitable Dave Graney, joined by original Coral Snakes Clare Moore, Rod Hayward, and Robin Casinader.
Known for their stylish musicianship and undeniable stage chemistry, the band’s return to live touring marks a rare opportunity to witness their magic in person.
Graney likens the record to a Shelby GT500—sleek, powerful, and built to cruise. And for those keeping track of his extended metaphor, earlier albums were described as muscle cars of their own, with The Devil Drives waiting in the wings like a ’73 Statesman Caprice.
With a rich back catalogue and a commitment to performance with style, this is one trip back to ’95 you won’t want to miss.
Dave Graney ‘n’ The Coral Snakes are set to perform at King Street Band Room on Thursday, 13 November 2025. Tickets for the show and all national dates are on sale now via www.davegraney.com.
