The Newcastle Roller Derby League is underway for 2022 and will hold the second game this weekend at the Newcastle Showgrounds Exhibition Centre in Broadmeadow.
The Bogey Rollers fought hard for a decisive victory over the Fort Smashleys in game one of the season and now they’ve set their sights on the ferocious Harbour Hellcats for game two.
Zoe Llewellyn, league president also known as Moxie Monoxide, said it was great to be back after such a long time away thanks to Covid.
“It was so wonderful to reconnect with the community,” they said.
“The crowd was amazing and brought a fantastic atmosphere to the game.”
The league’s representative squad, the Dockyard Dames, will be travelling to Adelaide over the June long weekend to compete in the southern hemisphere’s largest roller derby tournament, The Great Southern Slam.
The tournament will see thirty teams from across Australia and New Zealand battle it out for supremacy.
Game two of the Newcastle Roller Derby League hits the Newcastle Showgrounds Exhibition Centre in Broadmeadow on Saturday, 4 June. Tickets are available at newcastlerollerderby.org.au.
