The Newcastle Light Rail has been given a right royal rock and roll makeover, just in time for the upcoming Coates Hire Newcastle 500.
That’s right a new look tram featuring the rock and roll behemoth Kiss was unveiled on Monday to promote the I Was Made For Lovin’ You hitmakers’ anticipated turn in Newcastle alongside local icons The Screaming Jets.
2017 Bathurst 1000 and 2018 Newcastle 500 race winner David Reynolds, who also features on the tram, was joined by his Penright Racing teammate Anton De Pasquale, Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes and Coates Hire Newcastle 500 event manager Kurt Sakzewski for the big reveal.
“Not only are we celebrating having Kiss play here on Saturday 23 November, but also the integration of the Newcastle Light Rail becoming part of the main transport options for people who are coming, not just for the race, but also the concert on the Saturday night,” Mr Sakzewski said.
He added that services would also be bolstered to cope with the demand of the Kiss army descending on the town.
“It’s great to have light rail included in the transport options this year. Not only are the trams going to run at their regular schedule but at a higher frequency to deal with event patrons coming in and out of the event venue,” he said.
“Trams are running through to one o’clock in the morning and you’ll even be able to catch a train back to Sydney after the concert is over.”
David Reynolds added that he was chuffed to see his likeness emblazoned on the side of the tram.
“It’s a bit strange feeling but I think I can get used to something like that,” he said. It’s probably a life-size representation of my head – it suits my ego.”
