Over a thousand people came together yesterday to demand an end to domestic violence, harsher penalties for perpetrators and more support for survivors.
The March, organised by What Were You Wearing?, started at Newcastle Museum and finished with a rally at Nobbyโs Beach.
Attendees held signs and chanted in unison during the peaceful demonstration.
What Were You Wearing? Founder Sarah Williams highlighted the need for more emergency housing for people fleeing domestic violence situations and called on the government to provide more support.
A moment of silence was also held to remember the fourteen women who have so far been killed this year in Australia by acts of alleged domestic violence, including Mackenzie Anderson, who was tragically murdered last week in Mayfield.
Members of the crowd then took to the microphone to share their own stories and personal experiences.
