It’s been twelve months to the day since Tracy Mac and Michael Blaxland first switched on the microphones in the Newcastle Live Radio studios to stream Newcastle in the Morning around the Hunter.

From 9 am until noon every weekday, Tracy and Michael have been keeping us up to date on what’s happening around the region with interviews, reports and local news updates on the hour.

“We have an incredible community in Newcastle and the Hunter and the support that they have shown to us is inspiring,” Tracy Mac said.

“There are so many untold stories of the incredible good being done in our community that need to be told. And people in positions of power in the area have been prepared and open to answering the tough questions as they relate to us and our lives.”

Tracy said that out of all the interviews she’s presented in the last year, the two that really stick out in her mind are Chris Kelly, whose daughter has a very rare form of brain cancer, and her chat she had with Josh who was staying at Ronald McDonald House while his daughter was receiving treatment.

“For their families to allow me into their lives at such a tragic time was truly humbling. To be able to assist these families by raising the profile of what they are going through and helping raise funds to make their lives easier is what it’s all about,” She said.

I’ve also been quietly surprised that for the most part, people in positions of power in the area have been prepared and open to answering the tough questions as they relate to us and our lives.ย

On the anniversary of Newcastle in the Morning, Tracy also says she’s has been proud to focus the spotlight on local stories that often get overlooked and help hold those people in charge of our city to account.

“For the most part, people in positions of power in the area have been prepared and open to answering the tough questions as they relate to us and our lives.”

While Tracy and Michael have known each other for many many years, there’s still a lot the pair are learning about each other.

“I didn’t realise what a closet sports fan he is. He pretends to not know or support sport but he is incredibly knowledgeable and I even got him to one of the Tszyu fights here.

And I found out only recently that his Nan was an SP bookie!”
