OK BLOOMER: Newcastle Garden Awards entries now open

Calling all green-thumbed Novocastrians. The newly launched Newcastle Garden Awards are your chance to take out the title of best garden in town!

The Newcastle Garden Awards aims to showcase all sorts of different gardens from the big back yards to small balcony planters.

Award categories include Best Small Garden, Best Small Spaces Garden, Best Large Garden and People’s Choice.

Newcastle Garden Awards Founder, Michael Edwards said that the awards are a chance to showcase the spectacular gardens across the Region.

“The idea grew from my role in the property industry, where not only are we exposed to beautiful homes but equally, beautiful gardens. There didn’t seem to be a platform to showcase the many spectacular gardens across the Newcastle Region and equally the hard work, passion and dedication that is put in by their owners,” Mr Edwards said.

Local garden guru, Judy Sharpe,

The Judging Panel which includes local garden guru, Judy Sharpe, will be looking at all aspects of the garden entries including plant selection, hard landscaping and careful maintenance.

“I’m delighted to have Judy on board,” Mr Edwards said.

“She is a highly regarded and popular figure within the Newcastle horticulture field and an experienced Judge of the previous Australian Open Garden Scheme. Judy will be joined on the judging panel by another industry stalwart in Brian Bird.”

To enter the competition you just need to upload pictures of your garden to the award’s website.

Finalists will be announced on Monday 15 November with judges conducting site inspections before announcing the winners on Thursday 25 November.
