The quest to find Newcastle’s greenest thumbs is well and truly heating up with finalists for the inaugural Newcastle Garden Awards announced this week.
And as a testament to how much we Novocastrians love pottering around in our gardens, awards founder Michael Edwards said he was over the moon with the number of entries received.
“We have been overwhelmed with the positive response to the launch of the Awards this year. The entries in this inaugural year have set an extremely high standard for future editions,” Michael said.
“The recurring theme we have heard from entrants is that their gardens are their happy place, so it has been a joy to be able to showcase them.”
The Newcastle Garden Awards aims to showcase all sorts of different gardens from the big back yards to small balcony planters.
Award categories include Best Small Garden, Best Small Spaces Garden, Best Large Garden and People’s Choice.
Michael said that the awards are a chance to showcase the spectacular gardens across the region.
“The idea grew from my role in the property industry, where not only are we exposed to beautiful homes but equally, beautiful gardens,” he said
“There didn’t seem to be a platform to showcase the many spectacular gardens across the Newcastle Region and equally the hard work, passion and dedication that is put in by their owners.”
