Newcastle Fringe 2023 is right around the corner and we’ve got all the info you need to make the most of this exciting annual festival of arts and culture.

This year the festival will coincide with the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship, providing locals and visitors to the city with additional entertainment options.

“With travel restrictions no longer an issue, we are excited to be able to host several international artists as well as acts from interstate,” Newcastle Fringe Chair, Brooke Twyford said.

“We are showcasing artists from Spain, Germany, UK, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Wagga Wagga…and Wallsend. In fact, 20 out of 50+ artist groups are home grown right here in Newcastle and the Hunter and we’re very proud of the role we play in the development of our local artists.”

NEWCASTLE FRINGE DATES

The 8th annual Newcastle Fringe Festival will showcase 398 local and international artists, across 135 performances between 9 – 19 March 2023.

VENUES

You’ll be able to find performances around the Fringe Festival Hub at The Gal, Hamilton Wesley Church and The Sydney Junction Hotel or at other festival venues like The Royal Exchange, Newcastle Comedy Club and Brunker Community Theatre.

HAMILTON HUB

For the first time in the festival’s history, the CBD of Hamilton will be transformed into the 2023 Fringe Festival Hub. The Hub will play host to micro-performances, pop-up ticketing outlets, merch stands and plenty of fun festival vibes in James Street Plaza.

THE PROGRAM

This year’s Fringe Festival program is bursting with great live comedy, adults-only burlesque and cabaret shows, choirs, theatre and live music. You can view the program at newcastlefringe.com.au (where you can also purchase tickets) or download the PFD version using the button below.

INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS

2023 sees international artists return to the Newcastle Fringe Festival with some amazing shows over the two-week program. German entertainer Sylvia Brécko will bring her Fur Baby show to town for the festival alongside Spanish dance and guitar duo Aylin Bayaz and Raul Mannola in their award-winning Flamencodanza show.

KID’S SHOWS

This year’s Fringe program features a great lineup of shows for younger audiences including Jack and Alex’s Silly-Yak Adventure, LizzieLand, Mr Snotbottom (a kids comedian) and a very special performance from Newcastle supergroup, The Quokkas. Plus there’ll be a family fun weekend held during the festival that will see The Sydney Junction Hotel come to life with live entertainment, a jumping castle and face painting.

VOLUNTEER AT THE FRINGE

Volunteering at the festival is a great way to see shows for free, have fun with other volunteers and meet new people. Plus you’re able to include your involvement on your resume which is great for students of events management, arts and marketing.
