It’s been 30 years since a smash hit Broadway production like this has made its way to Newcastle. But Come From Away tickets are on sale now, and the countdown for its February 2023 debut is on.

The Tony and Olivier award-winning musical, written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, shares the real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from around the world who were grounded in Newfoundland in Canada after 9/11.

Irene and David travelled to Newfoundland for the 10th Anniversary commemoration of that fateful week and collected hundreds of hours of interviews that have now been distilled into the 100-minute show.

“This is a spectacular Broadway theatre production and a major coup secured by City of Newcastle that is sure to enhance the cultural life of our city for Novocastrians and visitors this summer,” Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said.

“Come From Away joins a stellar line-up of international acts featured on Newcastle’s 2023 major events calendar, kicking off on January 10 with one of the biggest names in music, Elton John, offering a taste of what is to come for the region.”

Come From Away

Come From Away will play for an extended stay at the Civic Theatre from February 2023 demonstrating once again the hunger Newcastle has for musicals and live theatre productions.

Civic Theatre Manager Leonie Wallace dropped in to chat with Tracy Mac on Newcastle in the Morning earlier this week to talk more about the musical and how everyone can get their hands on tickets.

Come From Away is showing at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre from 18 February until 5 March 2023. The production runs for 100 minutes and is recommended for ages 10 and older. Come From Away tickets are on sale now at civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
