Newcastle’s contemporary art space, The Lock-Up, is about to celebrate a compelling double opening featuring two solo exhibitions, The Green Dream by Locust Jones and When do I breathe? by Lauren Brincat.

The Green Dream showcases Locust Jones’ introspective approach to global politics, exploring the tension between international events and the immediate, tangible realities of daily life.

Known for his expressive mark-making and socio-political themes, Jones brings a deeply personal lens to his work, offering a critical reflection on the world around us.

Meanwhile, When do I breathe? by Lauren Brincat extends her 2024 public performance into a multi-sensory exhibition featuring film, fabric sculptures, and a sound installation. Drawing from the rhythm of a choir’s breath the exhibition transforms The Lock-Up into a performative structure that blurs the line between visual art and collective action.

Both exhibitions invite audiences to engage with urgent contemporary themes—Jones through his politically charged imagery and Brincat through participatory and immersive art forms.

Brincat’s work, originally commissioned for the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct, is a powerful statement on reclaiming public space through artistic resistance and community involvement.

The highly anticipated event will take place on Friday, 28 February, from 5:30 PM and promises an evening of thought-provoking art and immersive storytelling. With free entry and limited capacity, attendees are encouraged to book ahead at thelockup.org.au.
