GALLERY: Newcastle Blues & Roots Festival

Perfect conditions were on hand for the very first Newcastle Blues and Roots Festival at the Croatian Wickham Sports Club. If you couldn’t make it you missed one hell of and event, but never fear, our mate Craig from Swamphouse photography was there to capture it all.

The day  went off with a bang, blue skies, big crowds and a smorgasbord of live music on stage including Eddie Boyd & The Phatapillars, Plastic Voyage, Annie O’Dee & The Hot Shots, Hell’s Kitchen featuring the fabulous Helen O’Dee, Harry’s Lookout, Backfire, Nadine Quinn, The Girlfolder and The Phoenix.

There was a real family vibe happening with some yummy food, a few boutique market stalls, some arts & crafts, a jumping castle and lawn bowls.

Congratulations must go to the Organisers of the event, Kane Schiller and Annie O’Dee, and The Croatian Sports Club for what was an stellar day of live music!

At 16 years old, on a balmy May Friday night way back in 1975. I rolled up to the Forestville Youth Centre (The Forrie Bop) tickets were a couple of dollars and the band on the night included the likes of Bon Scott, Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Paul Matters and Phil Rudd, yes ‘ACDC’ all for $2.00, can you believe that.
