Music lovers of Newcastle – the Australian Jazz Convention, an annual gathering for musicians and jazz lovers, is headed to town later this month.

Since 1946, the convention has been hosted by different cities and towns across Australia. And this year, Hunter jazz lovers will get the opportunity to experience the event in their own backyard.

With a focus on traditional, or โ€œDixielandโ€ jazz, this year’s convention will also play host to a lineup of groups playing swing, mainstream, bebop, modern, funk, and various other jazz genres.

Held across six days from 26 December 2022, the Newcastle Australian Jazz Convention will culminate in a New Year’s Eve function sure to be the hottest ticket in town for lovers of jazz music.

The event offers locals and visitors a chance to indulge in a variety of jazz and listen to musicians and combos from around Australia and worldwide.

This year’s lineup includes some absolute superstars of the jazz scene including The Mongolian All-Stars and Nicki Parrott.

The Mongolian All-Stars

The Mongolian All-Stars are a collective made up of some of the finest musicians from the thriving jazz scene in Mongolia.

Their repertoire spans from super swinging interpretations of well-known gems, soulful ballads, Latin standards and some gold from the great American songbook.

Nicki Parrott

Nicki Parrott was actually born in Newcastle in 1970. Sheโ€™s not that well known in her hometown, but sheโ€™s HUGE in Japan.

In May 2021 Nicki moved back to Australia with her husband (an American record producer) after living in New York for the last 28 years.
