Start your engines, because the city is gearing up for an electrifying start to the Newcastle 500!

Whether you’re a speed demon or a culture aficionado, the city has plenty in store to keep you entertained.

With a jam-packed lineup of events, both locals and visitors can soak up the excitement and energy of this supercharged March weekend.

Check out just some of the events planned below.

Thrifty Newcastle 500 Driver Signing Event

Gregson Park will be the place to be for motorsport fans in Newcastle on Thursday 9 March with all 25 Newcastle 500 Supercar champions will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs.

Newy Car Club members will have a display of their pristine cars, while the Newcastle Visitor Information Centre will have a pop-up shop with official merch for sale.

Kids can pretend they’re behind the wheel on the free mechanical car ride and foodies can enjoy a range of delicious treats from the food trucks on-site, including Crafty Pit, WRHS BBQ, Barista Gals, Lulus Gelato, and Sno Cones.

And with Beaumont Street just up the road visitors can grab some takeaway and enjoy an evening picnic among the buzz.

Family Fun weekend at Civic Park

Civic Park is set to become a hub of family-friendly activities on the weekend of 11 and 12 March.

The park will feature an epic 27-meter slide, free face painting, and snack stalls for visitors.

On Saturday, the park will be all about art and dance, with hands-on creativity and messy play for toddlers.

Enjoy the sounds of Sunday with live performances by Newcastle Music Academy, HSPA Marching Band, Belair Public School Band, a DJ and Earthen Rhythms, while community members are encouraged to join in the drumming workshops and a silent disco.

Join Jessie from Creative Co, who will provide free toddler messy play stations where children can engage in play concepts such as play dough, painting, goop, slime, water play, and sensory textures.

Visitors can also race their friends on the jumbo slide, unleash their inner fairy or tiger with free face painting, and partake in fun interactive workshops.

A range of food vendors will be on-site to provide visitors with sweet treats, coffee, and tasty snacks. Alternatively, visitors can bring a picnic from home or takeaway from the many local cafes and restaurants along Darby Street and the Civic Centre.

Newy Car Club

Car enthusiasts and motorheads are in for a treat when the Newy Car Club pulls up at the Newcastle Museum Forecourt from 8 am to 5 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The club is known for its impressive collection of vehicles, which includes Aston Martin’s, Mercedes Benz GT’s, Lamborghini’s, Ferrari’s, Porsche’s, Lotus’s, and more. For those who prefer Aussie cars, they have Holden HSV R8’s, Ford GT500 Mustangs, classic Ford Fairmont’s, and XW GT’s. The showcase will also feature a variety of JDM’s and modified cars, from R34’s to highly modified Renault Megane’s, and the list goes on and on.

This is a great opportunity for car enthusiasts to come and admire some of the finest automobiles around, and get up close and personal with their favourite models. The showcase will also provide a chance for visitors to learn more about the Newy Car Club and their passion for cars.
