City Of Newcastle will mark the grand reopening of the newly revitalised Bathers Way precinct with a family-friendly event this Sunday.
The centrepiece of the event will be the high-energy demonstrations in the newly constructed skate bowl, with skateboarders, roller skaters, and BMX riders showing off their skills with a dedicated session for wheelchair users highlighting the region’s first wheelchair-accessible skate bowl.
Local businesses and community organisations will also offer complimentary bike check-ups and free coffee, There’ll be face painting stations, a DJ and Camp Quality will be hosting a community barbecue.
It’s a celebration that will mark the completion of the next stage of the City of Newcastle’s ambitious Bathers Way coastal revitalization project which includes new amenities like seating, shaded areas, and viewing platforms alongside the restoration of the historic 115-year-old stone arches and installation of murals by local artists.
The event will also be a great opportunity to check out the upgraded shared pathways between Shortland Esplanade and King Edward Park which form a key link in Bathers Way coastal walk, linking the city’s five iconic beaches.
The event will take place this Sunday, 18 August, between 8.30am and 11.30am on Sunday. For more information about the project visit newcastle.nsw.gov.au.
