Melbourne’s punk icons The Smith Street Band are headed to Newcastle this October as part of a mammoth 24-date East Coast tour.

The show at King Street marks the band’s long-awaited return to the city, and fans should brace for a night of raw, heart-on-sleeve rock.

Fresh off a capital city run across six states, the band is hitting the road again, this time with a focus on regional Australia.

Their upcoming Newcastle gig comes in support of their new single Star Child, a reflective and emotionally charged track that hints at a more introspective side of the typically high-energy outfit.

Star Child is the second single from their upcoming seventh studio album, recorded at their self-built off-grid studio in regional Victoria.

It follows their critically acclaimed albums Life After Football and Don’t Waste Your Anger, with the latter topping the ARIA charts.

The new single reflects on growth, fatherhood, and perspective, with the band’s signature storytelling style at its core. It’s a track that explores where life’s winding highways can take you, and for frontman Wil Wagner, it’s brought him to a place of clarity and contentment.

Their tour schedule reads like a love letter to regional fans, with stops in towns often missed on the typical touring circuit. From Mildura to Mackay and Tamworth to the Sunshine Coast, The Smith Street Band is giving long-time fans a reason to celebrate.

Catch The Smith Street Band live at King Street, Newcastle on Saturday, 18 October. Tickets go on sale Thursday, July 31 at 9am via thesmithstreetband.com.
