Musica Viva Australia will bring its first national tour of 2023 to Newcastle next month featuring the incredible classical guitarist Karin Schaupp.
Founded in 1945 Musica Viva is a leading presenter of chamber music in Australia. It aims to create a vibrant music community for local artists and audiences.
The show that will hit Newcastle in February will feature classical guitarist Karin Schaupp and the talented Flinders Quartet under the direction of Musica Viva’s Artistic Director of Competitions, Wilma Smith.
The centrepiece of the concert is a brand new work from Composer and former Musica Viva Australia Artistic Director, Carl Vine.
In 2019, when Paul Kildea took over as Artistic Director, he asked his predecessor to create a new work, commissioned by a longtime audience member wanting to immortalize the joyful memory of her late daughter.
“Iโm really excited about this national tour for Musica Viva Australia โ itโs a bucket list item for me as we persuaded Carl Vine (who is one of my favourite composers) to write for the first time for the guitar,” Schaupp said,
“The piece will be premiered with the Flinders Quartet and I canโt wait.”
This tour is hitting Newcastle City Hall on Wednesday, 22 February. Visit musicaviva.com.au for tickets and more information.
