WARM YOUR WEEKEND: Winter Mulled White Wine

This warm cocktail is the perfect finish to any day… best served while in pyjamas…. On the lounge… in front of the TV.

The temperature has certainly dropped. Although the sky has been a glorious blue during the day, thoughts of drinking white wine in the sun seem like an all too distant memory! But, the cold is going nowhere. And so, for the white wine lovers among us we’ve found a way to make your favourite tipple as appealing as it was just a few short months ago.

This mulled white wine gives you the same crisp citrus flavours you are used to in a Pinot Grigio or Verdelho combined with the warmth and spice that winter demands.This warm cocktail is the perfect finish to any day… best served while in pyjamas…. On the lounge… In front of the TV.

Which makes it pretty much perfect for right now. 

Ingredients

1 bottle of  white wine of your choice – we used the Yalumba Y Series Pinot Grigio because it was on special but you could almost use almost any crisp wine white, nothing too sweet

2-star anise

2 cinnamon quills

6 whole cloves

1 pink lady apple finely diced (plus a little extra for garnish)

¼ cup caster sugar

Method

Pour all of the ingredients into a large heavy-based saucepan. Heat the mixture on a very low heat for 10 minutes – you don’t want to bring this to a boil.

Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to steep for half an hour.

When ready to serve, reheat the wine over a medium heat until warm. Serve warm and garnish with some fresh sprigs of rosemary and a few cubes of apple.

#PROTIP: You can keep leftovers in the fridge and reheat as needed.
