Local musos record John Lennon’s ‘Happy Christmas (War Is Over)’

Last Sunday a group of local musicians headed to impromptu studio in Tighes Hill to record a version of the John Lennon classic, Happy Christmas (war is over). The collective hope to raise awareness and funds for the “Vulnerable Children Fund” charity by releasing the song and a video they recorded on the day. Newcastle Live headed to the studio to capture all the action.

The producer of the recording and the man behind the project, local muso Tim Hickey enlisted a large collective of talented local musos and producers, who all donated their time to help his vision become a reality.

With talent and harmony for days, the group set to work on recording a dead set blistering version of the Christmas song.

Check out the gallery of the recording below and keep your eyes on Newcastle Live to see the video clip when it’s released

At 16 years old, on a balmy May Friday night way back in 1975. I rolled up to the Forestville Youth Centre (The Forrie Bop) tickets were a couple of dollars and the band on the night included the likes of Bon Scott, Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Paul Matters and Phil Rudd, yes ‘ACDC’ all for $2.00, can you believe that.
