The entertainment industry, especially the live performance sector, was one of the first industries be shut down when the pandemic hit. Two-and-a-half years later many event promoters remain nervous about the future.

While the industry is learning to live with COVID-19 it still faces significant challenges that threaten its viability.

A new Live Performance Support Fund, launched by the Federal Government, is hoping to help overcome some of those challenges.

The fund will allow eligible event organisers to access coverage, up to a defined percentage of their anticipated revenue, for events that are affected by the nationwide requirement to mandatorily isolate following a positive test.

Events such as plays, concerts and festivals will all be eligible.

While more information on guidelines and the application process are yet to be released it is hoped that the fund will bring new confidence in the sector for promoters who were hit hard when their events had to be cancelled at short notice because of public health orders.

Musicians, performers, tradies, lighting operators, food van workers, hospitality employees and many others who rely on the income from these events will also see the benefits from the establishment of the fund.

The program will run from November 2022 until February 2023.
