If you’ve been a fan of Central Coast indie-folk outfit Little Quirks as long as we have, you’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. Well, today is the day. The band’s highly anticipated self-titled debut album has finally dropped.
The big triumph of this release is that the band have managed to capture everything we love about their live shows and while it would be easy to make a comparison with mid-2000s bands like Mumford & Sons, First Aid Kit, and Of Monsters and Men, this album hints at something more.
You’ll get singles, and fan favourites, like Storm Like Me and Reverie, but it’s the previously unreleased material, like Red Shoes, that really shines here and points to a sonic evolution for the Central Coast trio.
Comprising sisters Abbey and Mia Toole alongside their cousin Jaymi Toole, these new songs delve deep into personal experiences and reflections on growing up.
“The most fun part about writing songs in your twenties is that things change drastically from year to year; you just have so much thrown at you, so thereโs always plenty to write about,” Abbey said.
“From a couple of years ago โ when we started writing this album โ to now, Iโm certainly not the same.”
Recorded predominately in The Garden, a small studio their father Adam built in the backyard, the long-awaited album solidifies the band’s place as one of the country’s most exciting acts.
Little Quirks will take their album on the road next month with a tour that stops into the Newcastle Hotel on 15 November. To find out more about the album and get tickets to the local leg of the tour visit littlequirksband.com.
