Lake Macquarie is gearing up for a two-day fishing challenge this weekend, where four specially tagged fish could make some lucky anglers $25,000 richer each.

Organised by fishing enthusiast Michael Guest, the Let’s Fish Lake Mac event has released a flathead, tailor, bream, and whiting into the lake, each carrying a unique tag.

With a total prize pool of $100,000, participants must photograph their catch on a provided measuring mat before returning it to the water, promoting sustainable fishing practices.

“The four tagged fish have now been released, allowing them time to settle back into a normal feeding routine, ready for a lucky competitor to catch,” Guest said.

“We’re set for two days of cracking spring weather with light winds and no rain in sight. The lake is going to be busy with keen fishos getting their fishing gear ready to chase the four target species.”

The event isn’t just about high stakes—it’s a celebration of community and inclusivity and with fishing allowed both on the lake and along the shore, the event caters to anglers of all skill levels, ensuring a vibrant and dynamic experience.

Accessibility is a key focus of the weekend this year, with the debut of Lake Macquarie’s first fully accessible fishing platform at Bolton Point.

Equipped with wheelchair access and disability parking, the platform ensures everyone can join in on the fun. Additionally, Day Trippin Charters will offer 90-minute fishing trips for NDIS participants, accommodating up to four people per trip, including a parent or carer.

Entry to Let’s Fish Lake Mac costs $30, with the event running on Saturday, 23 November, and Sunday, 24 November. For more details, visit letsfishlakemac.com.au.
