Having just returned home from a sold out 30 date concert tour of UK, Leo Sayer says he’s ready to embrace a return to his roots with a string of intimate shows. He’s heading to Lizotte’s Newcastle on 12 August for a show that features a blend of his most loved hits and material that ignites his creative passions.
“I played a lot of rooms like Lizotte’s during my very first tour of America” Leo tell us during our phone interview.
“A lot of my mates have played there and they tell me it’s one of the best rooms in the country, so I’m really looking forward to it”.
There’s no denying that Leo Sayer has one of the most distinctive and celebrated voices in popular music. His career has spanned almost four decades and given birth to 15 albums and a number of iconic international chart-toppers like You make me feel like dancing that still fill dance floors to this day.
Given all that success Leo could easily continue to tour for the rest of his life just playing his back catalog to sold out rooms of adoring fans. But that’s not what motivates the english born artist, who is just about to release new material.
“I find when I’m writing a song, I really got to make a point” he tells us.
“I’ve just come back from London, and going to see Grenfell Tower in the flesh and meeting the people in the community there, it really gets you stoked up and I just have to write about it”.
Those lucky enough to have scored tickets to the Lizotte’s show on 12 August can expect to hear all the hits, some new material and of course some “tails from the road”.
