Lake Mac sows the seeds of creativity with funding boost

Lake Mac-based creatives are being given a financial shot in the arm thanks to a Lake Macquarie City Council funding program.

Now in its second year, the Creative Industry Seed Grants provide a total of $15,000 to emerging artists across all disciplines.

This year, applicants can apply for a share of the funding pool in two categories. The first, Creation of a New Work, is aimed at supporting creatives in developing new work that can be exhibited, presented or performed.

The second category, Professional Development, provides funding for the development of skills through workshops, academic research or creating an online presence.

Projects can include, but are not limited to visual arts, music, creative writing, publishing, performance, theatre, multimedia, or film with funding from $500 to $1500 available for each applicant.

“Council’s grant program will assist in cultivating emerging artists and provide opportunities for creative participation,” Council’s arts, culture, and tourism manager Jacqui Hemsley said.

“We are looking for high-quality applicants who have something innovative to offer.”

There will also be an online information session about the grants program on Wednesday 3 February from 5.30pm-6.30pm and on Thursday 18 February from 5.30pm-6.30pm. RSVP essential.

Applications close on Monday 1 March. Head here for more information.
