KINDLE FESTIVAL: A beacon of warmth and community spirit in Winter

As winter tightens its grip on Newcastle, July’s Kindle Festival is emerging as a beacon of warmth, joy, and community spirit.

Running from the 8th until the 19th of July, the festival is designed to combat the seasonal gloom by uniting the community through a rich array of bespoke events.

The festival offers a diverse lineup of events co-designed by local businesses, artists, and well-being practitioners, ensuring a broad appeal to people of all ages.

From lively music performances and children’s discos to engaging walking tours and stand-up comedy shows, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Each event is thoughtfully crafted to promote community well-being and support the local economy, creating a harmonious blend of entertainment and social responsibility.

ROGUE CHOIR

SUNDAY 7 JULY

An evening of harmonious singing hosted by the wonderful Gerda Temple. This lively gathering invites music enthusiasts of all levels to sing their hearts out in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just love a good ol’ pub sing-along, everyone is welcome to join the Rogue Choir Session.

KIDS KARAOKE AT JAM’S KARAOKE BAR

11 + 12 + 13 JULY

For the young and young-at-heart, don’t miss “Kids Karaoke at Jam’s Karaoke Bar,” a fun-filled event where children can take the stage and showcase their singing talents. This lively gathering promises a joyful atmosphere, allowing kids to belt out their favorite tunes and create unforgettable memories in a supportive and entertaining environment.

LAUGHTER THERAPY AT THE ROGUE WITH EDDY ROCKEFELLER

THURSDAY 11 JULY

Another must-attend event at the Kindle Festival is a unique comedy show dedicated to mental health and guaranteed to leave you in stitches. Local comedian Eddy Rockefeller, along with a lineup of special guests, will deliver an hour of side-splitting humor and fun. In partnership with the Kindle Festival and the Rogue Scholar, this event offers free tickets with an optional small donation to support the local charity Headspace.

DOGGIE SILENT DISCO

SATURDAY 13 JULY

The Silent Disco Doggy Walking Tour is the ultimate way to connect to the city and community. A group of fellow dog lovers, all wearing wireless headphones will be grooving to their own beat as they explore Newcastle’s streets. This unique tour will visit the city’s best dog-friendly venues, offering you and your furry friends plenty of opportunities to mingle, relax, and enjoy a drink together.

POWER PARTNERS

TUESDAY 16 JULY

A brunch seminar at The Happy Wombat, led by local Growth Coach and Mentor, Melanie Melcum. This event is dedicated to the unsung heroes behind small businesses—the partners who manage the household, support their loved ones, and shoulder significant stress behind the scenes. Power Partners aims to make attendees feel seen, encouraged, and empowered. Participants will enjoy a morning of reflection and connection, sharing their struggles, realizing they are not alone, and gaining strategies to feel more supported.

BEER YOGA ON THE ROGUE ROOFTOP

SATURDAY 20 JULY

For a unique blend of relaxation and refreshment, the Kindle Festival offers Beer Yoga on The Rogue Rooftop. This event combines the serenity of yoga with the fun of sipping your favorite beer, making it perfect for all levels—whether you’re a seasoned yogi or simply looking for an exciting way to unwind. Led by an experienced instructor, participants can breathe in the fresh air, soak up scenic views, and let good vibes flow.
