John Farnham has spoken about his health for the first time since his cancer diagnosis and surgery in 2022.
A year ago today the iconic Aussie artist embarked on a journey of resilience, undergoing a 12-hour surgery in Melbourne to combat a cancerous tumour in his mouth.
This marked the beginning of a challenging year that saw him navigating surgeries, rehabilitation, and radiation treatment.
Since the surgery, Farnham’s unwavering determination has seen him through a rollercoaster of medical procedures and setbacks, including infections and complications. The past 12 months have been marked by his tenacity and strength as he fought against these adversities.
As of last month, Farnham received the uplifting news from his medical team that he has triumphed over cancer.
“I am the luckiest man I know right now,” Farnham said in a statement released today.
“Itโs been a year since my first surgery and to be honest Iโve lost count as to how many other procedures thereโs been since then. I’m sure someoneโs kept track of them all – letโs just say, thereโs been a few. But, I’m home now and Iโm a very grateful and happy man. Iโm sitting here in my living room lapping up the attention from my beautiful wife, Jill, my boys Rob and James and my mini Schnauzer, Edmund.”
With immense courage, he battled through a rigorous treatment regimen and emerged victorious, providing hope and inspiration to countless others facing similar challenges.
This year-long journey of resilience reflects Farnham’s spirit and determination to overcome adversity, and his story serves as a beacon of strength for many.
“Itโs only now that I can start to appreciate and comprehend, for myself, how many messages of love and support have been sent to me over the past year. I donโt know what to say, other than thank you so very much. It honestly means the world to me. Thank you to everyone who took the time to write and send a message.
“Today is a special day. And Iโm going to mark it by having a pizza – because I can! I canโt wait to see what might be next on the menu. Bring on 2024.”
