Joe Muller Appointed as Managing Director of MusicNSW

The state’s music body, MusicNSW has appointed Joe Muller as its new Managing Director, following the departure of Emily Collins in July.

Joe will step into the role later this month ahead of a pivotal time for the organisation.

Muller’s extensive experience and dedication to supporting artists and the music industry played a significant role in his selection for the position and his ability to promote the economic, social, and cultural significance of contemporary music in New South Wales.

“We are thrilled to welcome Joe Muller to MusicNSW,” MusicNSW Chairperson, Julian Knowles said.

“He brings extensive experience across festivals, venues, and artist services, and has strong relationships across the breadth of the industry. This, combined with his direct experience as a musician, gives him a deep understanding of the importance of contemporary music to NSW communities. Joe is the ideal leader for MusicNSW at this exciting time in the development of contemporary music in the state.”

In the past, Joe has served as a festival curator, creative producer, venue programmer, artist manager, and independent label owner. He has been the Music Curator for Vivid Sydney and curated music programs for events such as Queensland Music Festival, Taste of Tasmania, Newtown Festival, and Melbourne’s CHANGES festival, as well as for renowned Sydney venues like The Basement and The Lansdowne.

“I am delighted to be joining the wonderful team at MusicNSW to continue their extraordinary work in a period fertile with opportunity,” Joe said.

“I join colleagues industry-wide in welcoming the NSW Government’s continued commitment to the renewal and growth of contemporary music, reflected in the recent announcement of the Vibrancy Reforms and $31.2 million investment in the sector.”
