The Jane Barnes Band will hit the stage for two intimate shows at Lizotte’s in Newcastle this June as part of a massive tour across New South Wales.
Starting out as a project Jane and Jimmy Barnes put together to connect with people who were feeling isolated and alone during the lockdown in 2020, the band eventually grew to welcome special guest musicians and other family members.
Those initial Facebook videos, recorded in their bedroom, loungeroom, and sometimes on their verandah, saw the duo cover a repertoire of songs from Otis Redding, Doris Day, Dolly Parton, John Denver, Glen Campbell, Leonard Cohen, The Beatles and, of course, Cold Chisel.
Jane said she carefully choose each song they played in an effort to evoke memories of childhood and growing up which touched the hearts of many who were tuning in.
With a repertoire down and a stack of (recorded) rehears under the belt, Jane decided it was time for the band to hit the road.
“I haven’t got a big band, but my singers are very expensive,” Jane said of the upcoming live shows.
