Charlestown-based eatery Bao Brothers has taken out top honours in our Best Of Newcastle: Best Iso Takeway poll.
It was a close race, to say the least, but at the end of the day, it was the popular Asian street-food inspired restaurant that took the gong, with the top five being rounded out by Newy Burger Co, Susuru Ramen and Gyoza, Smokin’ Hot ‘n Saucy, and Newy Fried Chicken.
Owners Nathan Martin and David Griffin told Newcastle Live that they were chuffed with the recognition.
“We’re very excited and it’s actually quite humbling,” Nathan said.
“Our team has been doing amazing work and it’s great to see that work being recognised.”
David added: “We really have had to ask our staff to go above and beyond and help support us during this pandemic and they have really stepped up. We couldn’t be prouder.”
We were literally inundated with votes when we put the question to you on social media a few weeks back and after we whittled down a massive variety of venues to the final top five we were again inundated with readers eager to give props to their favourite takeaway spots.
A testament to the vast array of quality eateries in our part of the world and the way they have adapted during these uncertain times.
“It was definitely hard at first,” David said about operating in the midst of a global pandemic. “But it’s all about adapting and jumping on board with concepts like more home delivery and getting out there more on social media and it’s good to see so many venues doing similar things because it’s not just about one succeeding, but everyone succeeding.”
There’s no doubt, looking the top five, that Bao Brothers edged out some pretty stiff competition and for Nathan and David, the secret is consistency.
“For us, it’s been about sticking to what we do since day one as well as focussing on fresh delicious food that doesn’t cut any corners.”
A huge congrats to our top five and keep that good food a-comin’!
