Tickets for Live At The Foreshore 2016 went on sale this morning! Newcastle Live are stoked to present such an awesome line up of Australian music in one of Newcastle’s most beautiful and iconic spots, but selfishly we’re even more excited about getting the chance to chat with all the musos appearing on the bill. We kicked off our series of interviews last week by chatting to Chocolate Starfish frontman, Adam Thomson.
Chocolate Starfish have a big history in Newcastle. One of the first shows the band ever played was at Newcastleโs Star Hotel. They played to only a handful of people that night, but one of them happened to be local radio personality, Garth Russell. At the time Garth was part of the unstoppable on-air team of Steve & Garth on NEW FM.
The next day, Garth headed into the studio with his co-host, Steve Graham to tell Newcastle about the band he had seen the previous night, and what an impact they had made upon him. The station put Chocolate Starfish’s song on high rotation, and the next time the band played in town, the room was full.
“I do actually remember that night, which is funny because a lot of drinks were had” Adam recalls.
“I remember another gig we played at The Star Hotel. It was so hot, and it was back in the days of leather pants. Anyway, there was this small pond out the back and at the end of the gig we got in it to cool off”.
Starfish burst on to the charts in 1993 with their classic cover of Carly Simonโs Youโre So Vain. But it was perhaps the Adam Thomson penned track, Mountain that really embedded the band into Australian music history.
We wanted to ask Adam specifically about that track, and his answer was so eloquent that we wanted you to hear it from the man himself. The audio track is below with an embed of the video for the song.

Chocolate Starfish will join Ross Wilson, Richard Clapton, Dragon, 1927, Wendy Matthews, Rose Tattoo, Steve Kilbey (The Church), Thirsty Merc, Pseudo Echo, Eurogliders, Mi-Sex, Swanee, Dale Ryder (Boom Crash Opera), Sharon OโNeill and the Dynamic Hepnotics for the 2016 edition of Live At The Foreshore on November 6.
