Hamilton’s historic Gregson Park will soon be home to an inclusive playground enriched with traditional indigenous elements.
The playground is just one of the key features of a new million-dollar playspace concept design unveiled by City of Newcastle.
Accessible, sensory and nature-based play options will sit alongside a variety of traditional play equipment and upgraded amenities.
An array of traditional indigenous elements are also part of the concept design including a yarning circle to encourage knowledge sharing, a bush tucker garden to enrich learning of native edible plants and a ‘meeting place’ to signify where people meet and gather around in circles.
“City of Newcastle is committed to delivering quality playgrounds and green spaces across the Newcastle LGA for locals and visitors to enjoy,” Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said.
“Extensive community engagement was undertaken as part of the preparation of the Gregson Park Masterplan 2021, with feedback into the concept design for a new playspace and upgraded amenities including consultation with First Nations Australians to appropriately capture indigenous elements in the design with further consultation still to be undertaken.”
The plan also includes a water feature, formal and informal seating and footbridges
Detailed concept designs for the Gregson Park playspace and amenities upgrade are on public exhibition until Friday, 16 December 2022.
