Huw Jones captures the sounds of Lake Macquarie for new public art installation

Local musician, composer, producer, artist Huw Jones has been busy producing six original pieces of music for an upcoming public art installation as part of the Pearson Street Mall revamp at Charlestown.

The aim of the series is to capture the essence of places within the Awabakal / Lake Macquarie region. The sounds you hear in the compositions were recorded by Huw in some of his favourite locations in the region including Caves Beach, Charlestown skatepark, the trails near Glenrock scout hall and Speers Point Park.

Each piece is a meditative journey made from the sounds of the birds, trees, water and people in each area Huw visited while recording for the series.

The $2.8 million upgrades to Pearson Street Mall will be completed in the coming months and includes new landscaping, custom-made street furniture, public art, environmental sensors, smart bins, digital signage, Wi-Fi, spaces for events, markets, live music and food trucks and an upgraded intersection at Ridley Street.
