Despite some challenging weather, thousands of beer-loving meat eaters descended on the Hope Estate over the weekend for the third annual Hunter Valley Beer & BBQ Festival.

Festival-goers enjoyed over 40 Hope Brewery beers and ciders and tested on the wares served up by a vast array of food vendors and the event’s Steak Cookoff and Australian Barbeque Alliance Championship rounds.

South Australia’s Dusty Que emerged as the 2023 Australian Barbeque Alliance Grand Champions taking home $1500 in prize money for their top-notch performance.

Steak Cookoff newcomer, Phil Thompson took home first place and $1000 in prize money in the Steak Category impressing the judges after only competing three times before.

Butter Beard BBQ was named Reserve Grand Champions, while Triple B BBQ took out 3rd overall and tied for first place in the brisket category with Rob and Randi Thraves of Smokin’ Hot N’ Saucy.

“It was great to see the patrons coming out to support the festival, the competitors and local producers,” Michael Hope said.

“We are looking forward to amping it up in 2024.โ€ Michael Hope said.
