What a top night at the Cambridge on Saturday, for talented Newcastle band Holly Who’s debut EP Launch.
Daniel March opened the night with a great set and a talented band to back him up, with Nick Saxon – Percussion, Klaye Sander – Bass and Jess Watt on drums. I’ve seen Daniel play solo quite a few times and always loved his stuff, but seeing him play with a full band brought it to a whole new level, just fantastic. A real highlight to finish off Daniel’s set, was Christian Hemara guest appearance for the last song, man what a voice.
Holly Who hit the stage just after 10.00 pm, another first for me, whilst I’d seen Holly Clayton and Adam Miller play on numerous occasions, I hadn’t had a chance to catch the full band until Saturday night. I’d heard lots of good things about the band and had high expectations which were met well and truly on the night.
I can’t really slot this bands music into a particular genre; it’s an eclectic mix of rock, pop and soul, with a big heart that gels together perfectly. As soon as they hit the first note it put me in a great space.
Holly Who is brimming with talent, sister’s Holly and Jessica Clayton’s power house vocals and fantastic harmonies up front, twin Guitars of Adam Miller and Drew Daniels, Cameron Daniels on Keys and a tight rhythm section of Luke O’Dea – Bass and Dom Borzestowski – Drums.
Their self-titled EP has four excellent tracks written by Holly Clayton and produced by Adam Miller, I’ve had the EP on rotation in my car since Saturday and love it, my favourite tracks are ‘Love Me Like’ and ‘Let You Fall’.
