As we know, our city has a wonderful history. Hopefully, the developers will realise its importance and won’t pull it all down. We can only hope.
In the meantime, Newcastle Live was wandering in the city’s mall recently and noticed some history that gives us a link to our amazing past.
While we recognise some things, there are others we want to know more about.

These images show 3 remnants of Newcastle’s history but, what’s the real story?
The Astoria
Was it a hotel, a cafe, a picture theatre or something else? This piece of history was revealed recently when an awning was moved from an adjacent building.
