Help families with a critically ill child this Christmas

When you donate to the Ronald McDonald House Christmas Appeal you’re giving a gift that allows children to be together with their families while they receive vital medical treatment.

At its core, the appeal is all about giving children like baby Harper, who was diagnosed at 18 months with an extremely rare cancer, a chance to be with her family at Christmas.

Thanks to generous donations, Harper’s parents, Julia & Jacob, have been able to stay at Ronald McDonald House here in Newcastle while she receives treatment at John Hunter Children’s Hospital.

Julia and Jacob are from Korora (Near Coffs Harbour) but they’ve been in Newcastle since the 14th of September this year while their two other children are being cared for by family in their hometown.

But thanks to Ronald McDonald House, in October Harper’s little brother and sister joined their mum and dad for a birthday celebration and were able to be together as a family once again.

They have been staying in one of the apartments in the house which gives them the space to relax, away from the hospital noises and bright lights. And, all going well with Harper’s current round of treatment, the family will be reunited at the house later this month.

“My kids are always together. They adore each other. So being able to have them all together in the house was such a special time for us. It was like a little bit of normal back in our lives,” Julia said.

“Harper is always happy when she is in the house, but when her brother and sister came to stay, it was like a spark was lit inside of her.”

This is just one example of what your donation to the Ronald McDonald House Christmas Appeal can do.

It’s a gift that will help ease the financial burden during some of the most trying times of people’s lives and bring joy to a sick child who just wants to be home with their family during Christmas.
