HIP HIP HOORAY: Hamilton to celebrate 150th birthday this weekend!

Ok, party people. Who’s ready to party?

Well, you’re in luck because this weekend Hamilton is turning 150 years young and you’re invited to help celebrate the auspicious milestone.

The all-day party extravaganza will kick off from 10am on Saturday 11 December when the sing stars of tomorrow from Julie Logan Music regale revellers with Christmas carols in James Street Plaza and Piggott’s Corner.

The tunes won’t stop there wither, with students from Sam Reynolds Music joining in the fun at James Street Plaza.

The creative creatures over at Curious Legends will also be on hand dishing out lashings of colour, fun and joy with their famous Bush Clowns while chalk artist Alex Egner will dop more than a few jaws with some live sketching.

The celebrations will culminate at Gregson Park from 5pm where Curious Legends will launch their brand new festival show Curb.

If that wasn’t enough, you might find a superhero or two taking a stroll along Beaumont Street and Santa will also drop by for some festive photos.

The day will also see the launch of the new and improved Heritage Walking Trail experience that can be found on the City of Newcastle app. The creators will be there along with local historians for a walk down memory lane commemorating the rich history of Hamilton.

But wait! There’s more! From 3pm, Hudson Street Hum will be hosting a Trash Creatures workshop withYvette Ten-Bohmerwhere you and the kids can get messy creating creatures from all things recycled.

The celebrations will culminate at Gregson Park from 5pm where Curious Legends will launch their brand new festival show Curb.

“This event is all about Trash,” Curious Legends artistic director Mitchell Reese said.

“We’ve taken a simple concept – throwing away a banana peel and made it larger than life.”

The event will also feature live music, food trucks, roving artists and more, making it a great day out for the whole family.
