We’ve all been there. Pounding head, dry mouth, and an onset of quivery nausea that makes you question every choice in your life that has led you to this situation… Yep. It’s Hangover Town. Population: you.
Playin’ it safe
Eaaasy does it. Don’t rock the boat. If you feel like you’re one swift movement away from certain death, it’s probably not the best idea to dive head first into that Big Breakfast.
Keep things simple with a seriously good coffee and toasty at Suspension on Beaumont St, or a Hand-cut Chip Butty at Scotties Fish Cafe, Newcastle East.
Let the feasting commence!
If your hangover style is to wake up with an insatiable hunger and a bottomless pit for a stomach, then please, step right this way…
You can never go wrong with the Big Breakfast or French Toast at Three Monkeys on Darby St – a Newcastle favourite.
If you accidentally/on purpose slept in til 3pm, then move over breakfast, this is a job for burgers! Wrap your mouth around Newcastle’s favourite burgs at Newy Burger Co. on Hunter St and make damn sure you order a side of dirty fries… and maybe even a couple of doughies for dessert.
Health the hangover out of your system
To those who don’t succumb to the siren call of greasy, salty goodness after a night out – We salute you.
Head over to Blue Door on Hunter St for one of their most popular dishes – The Byron Benedict – a plate full of all the good stuff.
For a breakfast so green your insides will literally feel brand spankin’ new afterwards, pop into 127 on Darby St for their Mint & Kale Quinoa Porridge with Free Range Poached Eggs and Organic Bacon. Hangover? What hangover?
Boozy Brunch
Ain’t nothing wrong with a little hair of the dog if it cures what ails ya. All’s fair in love and war and hangovers. Just remember, don’t get up tooo early to avoid having your plans thwarted by any pesky ‘no alcohol before 11am’ rules.
The Edwards on Parry St serve up some very tasty Bloody Marys every Saturday and Sunday, team it with one of their Legit Bacon and Egg rolls and BAM! Miracle cure.
The Hood at The Junction have been known to incorporate their delicious house made gelato into their ever-changing frappe-style cocktails… Just like a chocolate milkshake, only boozy.
Caffeine, stat!
If you’re just chasing some of that liquid gold and would gladly hook it directly into your veins if you could, then look no further than Glee Coffee on Darby St – since they don’t serve meals, you won’t have to battle any breakfast-goers standing in between you and your sweet bean juice.
Definitely still drunk…
Ahh, that blissfully ignorant and mildly delirious stage after waking up, but before the hangover sets in… This is your window of opportunity to soak up all that alcohol with a good feed, and if you play your cards right, you just might even beat this thing!
Papa’s Bagel Bar on Hunter St serve up a solid selection of deceptively hearty bagel toppings, our pick is the Crispy Bacon with Taters and Hollandaise or the Beef Mince, Poached Egg and Parmesan.
A Frankies Hot Dog with Shoestring Fries from Frankies Place on Darby St or a Reuben Melt from Three Bears Kitchen off Newcastle Mall are always a good choice!
And for those times when you just literally CAN’T EVEN
When the thought of actually dragging your sorry self out of bed seems incomprehensible, no one will think any less of you if you turn to your trusty pizza delivery pals at Crust or Dominos.
Maybe one day, in a glittering utopia, Newcastle’s very own Hangover Bros will return once more to help deliver the goods to our fallen hungover comrades… One day.
