Community groups, local businesses and residents across Newcastle are being invited to share in almost $1 million in funding as City of Newcastle opens its 2025 round of grants, sponsorships, and programs.
The annual funding initiative aims to support projects that drive social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits across the region.
From grassroots community initiatives and creative events to precinct beautification and business innovation, the programs are designed to foster long-term positive outcomes for Newcastle and its people.
A wide range of projects are eligible, with previous recipients including mental health and wellness walks, culturally safe spaces for Aboriginal women, youth outreach, environmental restoration, and events like Summer Runway by Facon Models.
Infrastructure grants have also backed improvements to recreation facilities and community gardens, while Special Business Rates funding has helped precincts like Wallsend thrive with community events and local activation.
One standout recipient in 2024 was The Full Circle Collective, whose Wallsend Op Shop Trail and community Clothes Swap helped promote sustainable fashion and reduce textile waste.
With support from the Special Business Rate program, the initiative empowered locals to embrace circular economy principles through creative and inclusive events.
Applications for general grants and sponsorships open on 2 June and close on 29 June, while expressions of interest for the Special Business Rates program open on 26 May and close 22 June. Interested groups can find more information and apply at newcastle.nsw.gov.au.
